[jaws-uk] Re: Scan disk for errors.

Hi Alex, go to my computer, then local disk c. Press alt and enter to open
properties, then shift tab to get onto the tabs. Right arrow to the tools
tab, then tab to open the page. Tab once and the first button you come to is
error checking. activate with spacebar. Tab again and you will find "fix file system errors". Check with spacebar. Then tab to start. When you do that you'll get a message saying that the drive is locked, and asking if you'd like to schedule a schan for next reboot. Click yes. If you need to do chkdsk /f go to the start menu and press r. In the run box type cmd. The command prompt window opens. Type chkdsk c: /f Windows will say that the drive is locked and ask if you want to schedule for next reboot. Press y for yes. Then type exit to exit the command prompt window.
               Good luck,
                   John.

I've never run scandisk, I looked for it in accessories but it doesn't
seem
to be there, nor in control panel. I used to run the equivalent on my old
win98 machine so any help with using scandisk with windows xp from anyone
would be appreciated. Where is it and how do I use it.

Hi.

I have a C and D drive on my machine and I'm wondering if when you set up
the scan disk option from my computer, if you can ask it to scan the C and
D
drive at the same time as you have to re-start the machine in order for
the
scan to take place. I've just done a scan, and after it had finished,
instead of the computer going back into Windows, like it normally does, it
shut down. Can anyone tell me why it would do this as I thought that once
the scan had been completed, the machine went back into Windows again like
it does when it starts up. I don't think it's ever shut down before so
can
someone explain this to me?

Thanks.
Sue.
