[jaws-uk] Re: Scan disk for errors.

Hi Alex,

If you go to my computer, select a drive and press alt enter to go into its properties, then shift tab to general tab, then right arrow to tools tab, error checking is the first element, just before defrag, that's how I reach it, it seems to be the quickest way in XP.

Regards,

Pete H.

Hi

I'm looking for the error checker but still can't get anywhere with it. Are we talking about chkdsk at all? I regularly use defrag and disk cleanup as
well as keeping my c drive as optimised as I believe I can with c cleaner,
so I seem to be missing something. I'm a little bit confused.

I use the error check in tools just next to defrag, it only takes a minute
or so to complete, much quicker than running a full disc scan.

I've never run scandisk, I looked for it in accessories but it doesn't
seem
to be there, nor in control panel. I used to run the equivalent on my old
win98 machine so any help with using scandisk with windows xp from anyone
would be appreciated. Where is it and how do I use it.

Hi.

I have a C and D drive on my machine and I'm wondering if when you set up
the scan disk option from my computer, if you can ask it to scan the C and
D
drive at the same time as you have to re-start the machine in order for
the
scan to take place. I've just done a scan, and after it had finished,
instead of the computer going back into Windows, like it normally does, it shut down. Can anyone tell me why it would do this as I thought that once the scan had been completed, the machine went back into Windows again like
it does when it starts up. I don't think it's ever shut down before so
can
someone explain this to me?

Thanks.
Sue.
