[jaws-uk] Re-booting computer

Just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this problem.

I'm using a Dell Latitude laptop with Jaws 5 and Windows XP Pro.

Recently I had to make a presentation so had prepared my laptop ready to connect a data projector, with PowerPoint loaded and so on.

When I connected the projector the laptop immediately re-booted.

When I logged back in again, the password was accepted but a few seconds later the computer re-booted again and kept repeating this several times. I then disconnected the projector, stopped Jaws from starting automatically, re-connected the projector and everything worked properly.

Subsequently, having set Jaws back to load automatically, I was then trying to use my laptop back at the office without the external projector connected. A similar problem occurred except that it was worse in that it kept re-booting before I had any control of the computer at the Desktop. I therefore was not able to set Jaws to not load at start up. The upshot of this was that I was locked in a cycle of logging in and then re-booting. I eventually had to get the system administrator to connect the exact same projector, log in with administrator privileges, adjust Jaws, re-boot the laptop several times without the external projector until everything appeared normal and then reset Jaws to load automatically. This resulted in the laptop working normally again.

Although I am now aware of the problem, it means that I will need to be extremely careful if I need to use my laptop with an external projector again. I suspect that this is something to do with the video chaining but I am wondering if anyone out there knows of a reliable way of sorting the problem permanently so that I don't need to stop Jaws from loading automatically every time I am going to use an external projector?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Jamie
