Further to my last posting asking whether colours make a difference to
accessibility, with particular reference to this product, I have contacted
the software company concerned. They tell me that "some of the buttons are
pictures which JAWS can't read". They told me to uninstall Registry Easy
and try installing a registered version, giving me a site link to download
it. I did this, and the result is exactly the same. All there is on the
screen is one checkbox and the list of things that need to be cleaned up.
No menus or buttons are accessible in any way, even with JAWS cursor. I
have requested a refund and will have to uninstall the product, but I have
told them this is very disappointing because this product is recommended by
one of the PC magazines as the best of its kind.
I don't know where in the world this product comes from, and whether it
would be worthwhile reminding them about the need for accessibility under
either the DDA or the American legislation.
Finally, I wonder whether any of you would like to give it a go. I would be
very interested if George could do this, as he could perhaps tell us what
exactly is the problem. If anyone would like to try, which you can do free
to begin with, the website is:
http://www.registryeasy.com/
What happens is that when you download and install you get a free scan of
your computer, but as far as I can tell, you can get no further than that
due to lack of accessible controls. I would be very interested to know what
others think.
