Hi David,
Thanks for both these suggestions. I will give them both a go.
Kind regards,
Denis

Hi Denis,
You can get to the mute button using a small number of keystrokes, which you
should be able to use without any sound feedback:
1. Press windows key + b, to move to the first icon in the notification
area.
2. Press left arrow twice to move to the volume icon. This works because the
volume icon is always second from the right.
3. Press spacebar to open the volume window.
4. The initial focus is the volume slider, so press tab to the mute button.
Alternatively, if you want a one keystroke solution, there is a program
called nircmd which works on vista:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html
You can use it to do all sorts of things, including unmute the volume. To do
this create a shortcut on the desktop with the target:
nircmd mutesysvolume 0, and then set a shortcut key for this shortcut. Note
that this assumes that you've put a copy of nircmd.exe in the windows folder
- if it's elsewhere then you have to use the full path of the file
nircmd.exe.
David.
original message:
I am using Windows Vista and JAWS 11.
Recently I find the sound on the computer automatically gets muted. With
sighted help I can get it bac via the Volume function in the Systems Tray.
However, it is inconvenient when I am without sighted asistance and I
wondered if someone could offer help to enable me to turn on the sound
myself or suggest a likely cause for this problem
Regards,
Denis
