Thanks for help,
Just for anybody else, couldn't find any text at the top of the document,
though something seemed to have got in to the properties.

Hi Tom,
I you suspect your normal.dot Template has become damaged in some way, the
safest way to restore it is to search of all instances of normal.dot and delete
them. Word will create a new one next time it is run.
As to the Save As, is it possible that your document begins with "Jan 18",
and that Word is simply suggesting a name?
George.

Have screwed something up here!
When I open up word, it says doc 1 as expected, but, when I do a save as,
it says Jan 18.doc.
I have opened the Normal template, but, can find nothing there. I don't
know what Doc 1 is attaching to.
Any help?
Tom
