Hi Norman,

It may be totally unrelated, but I have just tried to
install the latest Office 2003 update, and get "Fatal
Error". The installation then disappears.

Subject: [jaws-uk] Microsoft Update failing to install

Hello,

Can anyone please help? I have freshly installed Win XP
Home SP2 on my machine, activated and registered Win XP,
installed AVG Free Edition virus checker, and am now
attempting to apply Microsoft updates. I did have automatic
updates turned on; the Windows Genuine Advantage update
installed ok. I am using JAWS 7.0 in 40 minute mode, as I
only need it to administer the machine for another family
member.

Further updates could not be installed until the latest
Automatic Updates package was installed - but it wouldn't
install. The package downloaded ok, but the installation
always failed, and the next time I went to Windows Update it
was downloaded again. When Automatic Updates was on, the
update tried to install itself at turn-off if I had not
clicked on the balloon beforehand. It still failed.

I have tried turning Automatic Updates off; switching off
AVG. I don't think my firewalled router is to blame because
the package downloads, but someone might think otherwise.

Could the 40 minute JAWS be the problem? If not, what else?
Any ideas please?

Regards,
