Thanks George but as I have no screen output, a sighted person is worse off
then me... However does give me another place to have a nose about in.

I suspect you may need some sighted assistance here. To resolve the Video
problem, you may need to boot up into what is called "Safe Mode" when you will
have no speech. However, by looking at Control Panel, System, it should be
possible to identify what component of your system is causing the failure.
With any luck, it may be as simple as corrupted drivers, which in turn can be
reinstalled. However, as I say, this is a process for a sighted person.
On the boot up issue, this is probably due to Vista's rather comprehensive
Indexing of your system. It is supposed to make searching faster, but
personally I have my reservations and so I have turned off disk drive indexing
on my own system.
George.

Hi folks,
Using Jaws9.0.519 and Vista Home Premium. I am finding that my PC is taking
longer and longer to start-up and "Jaws", is still having a gurgling fit
between 5 to 15 minutes after it has loaded, sometimes lasting for some 5
minutes. I tried previously suggested fixes, those being checking applications
being loaded at start-up and all those were Windows programmes which I was
cautious about changing the status of. I already delete Temporary Internet
files nearly on a daily basis and with Vista there is a "defragmenting schedule
set, so when I tried the "defrag", suggestion , it stated it was not required.
I couldn't find the uncheck "stereo enhancement", suggestion but that is not
unusual for me.
However, I have now lost output to my monitor! Not a problem for me but to
my sighted wife renders the PC unusable( No, she can't cope with Jaws).
checking "Problem reports & solutions", via the Control panel. It seems I have
had a "Blue screen error", which when first I noted it, it said it was due to
"Real Player". I rarely ever use that prog, so maybe caused by an auto
update.... When I try to check for a solution it just says "No new solution",
and/or "researching". This is now getting annoying!
Reading up on "Blue screen error", I have come across numerous sites stating
this can be caused by problems with "Windows register", and suggestion a
"cleaning/repair" software required. There seem to be many such software and
many sites stating that one is better then the other but nearly all claim to
improve performance and my start-up problem as well. Mind, most state is
"Free", to download but the free part being just the scanning part of the
software and the important bit being the repairing part needing to be
purchased. Again, just finding out the cost seems to be last bit of info to be
divulged normally at the end of the installation process....
Has anyone used such a cleaning/repair programme, was it successful and how
user friendly was it with "Jaws"? Any help would be gratefully received
Mark.
