[jaws-uk] Re: Jaws having a gurgling fit!

Hi Tim,

Cutting in on this as I've experienced a similar sort of thing with my
new Acer laptop running Windows Vista home premium & Jaws 9 (presently
only a demo). The laptop itself has 3gb of ram and is an Intel core 2
duo processor. All I've got running on it at the mo is Nod32 and MS
Office applications. I find more often than not when I open an email
but also sometimes in a word document Jaws stutters a lot before sorting
itself out - I wouldn't have thought this should happen with a new,
clean laptop with 3gb of ram? Not saying your comments re disk defrag
aren't valid but also wondering if something else might be going on
here?

Cheers,

Phil

Hi,

This sounds like a resource shortage rather than a problem with JAWS. I
get this a lot on an underpowered laptop I use, and it usually happens
if there's something extra running in the background such as a
virus-scan etc. It may be worth de-fragmenting your disk, or running
disk cleaning and repairing utilities. The only thing I've found that
makes a real difference with my laptop is a complete re-build, which
only makes a difference for a few months before it slows down again.
The machine needs to be fairly powerful to cope with the extra resource
drain imposed by JAWS or other screen readers.

Regards,

Tim Pennick

        Hi all,

I am using Jaws 9.0.519 and Windows Vista. I have recently
been encountering on most programmes Jaws having a gurgling fit and
delays speaking between actions! As it it is not specific to one
programme wondering if anyone else has been having this problem... It
is not a constant problem but too damned regular for my liking.

Has anyone any ideas as to the cause and even better a a
possible solution?

        Regards

        Mark
