[jaws-uk] Re: Jaws 7.0

Hi Barbara and all,

(If you're one of the technical minded on this list please read on)

Ok, this is my story... JAWS has done the very same thing with me many
times. I did a test to see if it was JAWS who's misbehaving or it was my
soundcard, by playing a sound file after JAWS stops talking. As I suspected,
it was my computer losing its sound output all together rather than JAWS. I
found that by putting my computer into standby mode and then waking it up
brings back the sound output. That's a quicker way to get round the problem
than a restart, and I stopped losing any unsaved work at the same time.

Now you could argue that it's actually JAWS who's causing all of this to
happen in the first plaice, though I have no evidence to support this
assumption. However, I sent my machine away twice for the soundcard to be
checked but got told that there was nothing faulty with it. I don't know
what I can do next to certify where the problem lies and I wouldn't mind any
thoughts... Lastly, I'd have to say that after a reinstallation of XP and
upgrading to JAWS 7.0, the problem now only happens once a while.

Hope this anecdote would be of any help to you, Barbara! *Smile*
