Hi Steve, Hopefully the following is the same for Outlook 2000 as it is for Outlook 2003. Go to Outlook's Tools, Options, then select the "Other" Tab. Now click on the "Reading Pane" button. The next dialog will allow you to set the time delay such that when you are on a mail item, it will remain displayed as unread. How MUCH time you give this is very much personal preference, but I suggested initially perhaps 10 seconds might be just enough to let you hear the basic details before moving to the next message, and still leave the flag as unread.
