Hi Hazel,
Jaws is written in such a way that it tries to make sense of software which
is written according to Microsoft's own standards.
Unfortunately, a great deal of software is written with little or no regard
to these standards which leaves Jaws very little clue as to how to treat the
softwares' output. It is analogous to a train running without rails.
The scripting language built in to Jaws allows a Jaws user or someone on
their behalf to modify the way in which Jaws recognises the behaviour of the
particular software and, through the use of keyboard shortcuts and other
techniques, to make the software usable.
Even with the Jaws scripting language, it is still not possible to make some
software usable.
Some scripts are freely available for certain popular applications and
others have been written and made available commercially.
If you can tell us the name of the particular software, you may find someone
on this list who uses the same thing and can give you more specific advice.

Phil Medway

Subject: [jaws-uk] JAWS working with other kinds of Software!
I am using JAWS 6.1 and windows exp home. and am having difficulty with
accessing other software applications. Someone told me that JAWS could
access these programmes using scripts! But no one seems to know anything of
how these scripts are supposed to work. I have just got the organisation I
am working for to order a new copy of JAWS andI was wondering if I am going
to face the same problems with this new copy too.
Hazel.
