[jaws-uk] Re: JAWS not reading text in merged cells

Hi,

Thanks to every one who has responded to this post.
I had tried everything to try and make JAWS speak text in merged cells
in my spreadsheet and decided to create a new spreadsheet. Guess
what.... it works in this one! did everything the same, but in this one
JAWS speaks text in merged cells, I haven't got a clue as to why the
other wouldn't work, but now thankfully I can get on with it.

Thanks again.

Hi Dave,

I posed your question to Tristram at Sight and Sound, since I could not
find the answer myself in the JAWS Help files.
Here is his reply:

"In JAWS 9.0 "Merged Cells" detection is turned on by default. If
however you go into the verbosity menu with
insert+V. Then go to "Merged Cells Detection" and toggle it
off, that should cure the problem."

George.

Subject: [jaws-uk] JAWS not reading text in merged cells

Hi all,

I am creating an Excel spreadsheet in which I wish to display text in
merged cells.
Unfortunately as soon as I merge the cells, JAWS no longer speaks the
text in those cells, and all I hear is "Merged cells".

Any one have a solution please?

Using:
JAWS 8.0.1177
Excel 2003
XP Pro

Cheers

Regards
