On the other hand, a fixed IP can be invaluable if you want
to obtain remote support on a regular basis, or if you wish
to contact your own system when travelling.

Static I/Ps are most useful when you are running your own
server for a website or some other online resource.  In
terms of normal domestic user, I cannot think of a good
reason to have static I/P.
