Michael If you open up a notepad file, then tap the alt key, focus will move to the Menu bar. Press 5 on the number keypad and you will here a letter announced. Now press the right arrow to move to the next menu item, press 5 on the number keypad again and you will hear another letter announced. The letters you hear are the shortcuts to those menu items, for example holding down the alt key and pressing h will take you straight to the help menu. Pressing the down arrow once in the menu will announce each item under that menu. Each item under the menu also has a shortcut letter which you can check using 5 on the number keypad. By pressing alt + h followed quickly by the letter a, you will bring up the Help About dialog The alt + h notation is to indicate that you hold the the alt key whilst pressing the h key HTH Chris -----Original Message----- From: Michael Brown [mailto:michael.brown222@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 23 May 2005 18:12 To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Help please. Hi Chris, Thanks for that, but what do you mean by alt+SF? Do you mean alt+shift+F? Thanks, Michael. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mullins, Chris <mailto:Chris.Mullins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: 'jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' <mailto:'jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx'> Sent: Monday, May 23, 2005 1:44 PM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Help please. Michael It depends how old your version of Notepad is. If you tap the Alt key then use the right arrow to step along the menu bar and it reads out 'File Edit Format Help System', then control 'f' should work. If however, it reads out a menu item entitled 'Search', then you have an older version of notepad and have to use alt + s f for 'Find' to bring up the find dialog. Hi Folks, can anyone help please? My first question is; I've tried to use the find feature with ctrl+F in Notepad but it does not appear to work? It does work however in Word 2000 which I have installed. Does the find feature of ctrl+F only work in Word then? and not in Notepad? My second question is off topic, and not Jaws related, but I wondered if someone can tell me? What does a braille EN sign and a lower G sign mean in braille computer coding? that is in a website address? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again, Michael Brown.
