[jaws-uk] Re: Headings in web pages

Barry,

I am using Jaws version 6.10.982.

This is most strange as, not only am I not getting any headings using Jaws, I am not seeing any h1, h2 or h3 tags in the source code. I don't see how it would be possible to have headings if the relevant tags are not there? It's a bit of a mystery to me at least but I'm sure that there are some better qualified web designers out there who probably know the answer.

Cheers,

Jamie

Hi Jamie

What version of JFW are you using? I am using 5.1 and it definitely says
*Heading level 3* through the text. What I think has happened is that, as
the site is for the VI, whoever wrote it has gone over the top with
descriptive code.

Barry,

I'm not sure what's going on at your end but I can't find any headings at
all on the NALSVI website, nor can I find any lines that come up with the
text you mention!

What I do find on the page is an irritating number of 'eye candy' graphics
which are announced as "Graphic spacer image".

You've got me wondering now if I've got some setting that is set to ignore
headings but I'm pretty sure that this is not the case as it announces
headings on other websites.

Sounds most odd to me.

Incidentally, on a site where headings have been used well, they can be a
really excellent additional navigation facility and shouldn't be necessarily
viewed as a nuisance.

Cheers,

Jamie

Hi all

On some web pages, jaws reads *heading level...* on nearly every line of
text. One such page is:

http://www.nalsvi.org/

Do I have a setting wrong in JFW or is it the web page that is at fault?

Thanks

Barry
