[jaws-uk] Re: George to Jim on Talk talk

In very simple terms, a DNS (Domain Name Server) is like a
giant electronic telephone book.

It converts Domain Names which come after the @ sign, like
"freelists.org" or "zen.co.uk" for example, into numbers in
the form ###.###.###.### known as an IP (Internet Protocol)
address. It also does this for web addresses.

There are a number of these giant servers spread around the
world, and their job is to direct messages to the correct
Domain - usually an ISP (Internet Service Provider). In the
case of web pages, a similar process occurs.

Once a message reaches the ISP, a locally based DNS directs
messages to whoever is in front of the @ sign, like
"dorothy.ingram-gorban"

George.

Thank you George for explaining that. I did not know it was
very common for=20
Spammers to change the way we appear to that extent. I do
know that after=20
I switched ISP. Spam stopped at once. hence it must have
been Freeserves=20
fault. Regarding domain names I have never really
understood what they are=20
or if it is similar to an I.P address. I realise my Ip
address will have=20
changed on leaving Freeserve but am not sure about the
Domain .

dorothy. Ps this is quite technical stuff I once looked up
Domain in that=20
Wicket Enc and got about40 pages which left me baffled.
wonder what it would=20
say about Spammers

I am sorry Jaws is doing odd things with letters I swear I
am not to blame.=20
part.=20
