Hi,
My theory is that the defrag went wrong when it was done and the disk is fine,
but the NTFS tables are damaged. However, if the machine is under warranty and
they are coming out they will probably just replace the disk as it would take
time to investigate the full state of the physical drive.
Defragging will put a bit of load on a disk, but won't cause it to go wrong
unless it is aborted halfway through, especially if the program is forcibly
closed or the system powers off whilst it is moving data and the indexes don't
match.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Hi George,
isn't defragging recommended for all disk drives any way.
If you could help me it would be most grateful also.
P.s. my disk drive is fine, but with seeing all the posts I am just making
sure that by defragging I am not putting my disk drive at risk.

Disk drives sometimes carry a separate manufacturer's warranty, often as
much as 5 years.=20
Defragging does exercise the disk drive, but should not cause premature
failure.
George.

The hard disk failure will cause the loss of all files, including the
registry, all mail and documentsI asked Tony Berry to type a note in My
Documents word explaining why nothing is saved. However George maybe has
the time can you explain the following. I did do a Defrag the evening before
before, I did make sure it had finished, I did reboot.
However Tony Berry said this procedure of Defragging is very high risk, now I
am sure others do a Defrag on a regular basis and would not dream it was
so risky, can you explain why it is so risky if not George then another part.
I shall not feel confident now to do it ever again. as it may have
contributed to the disc becoming NApoo, and if the last word is not in the
dictionary I do not want to know that=20
