Thank you David, hope you are lucky getting compensation, one of my messages went astray, I was explaining how cautious I have become, if workmen are using power tools I turn off computers, make sure they are using a power protector by asking them. another things is that as I explained, the other year a large tree was hit during a thunderstorm around the corner, in the Cricket field, sever people I know had their computers literally blown ruined lost everything. their own homes were not struck, they personally were not harmed but the surge of electricity was so high the computers were ruined. One lady I know said we claimed on our household Insurance, under accidental breakage, another got her claim dealt with differently, the small print in your Insurance Policy matters.

After that occurrence, I took more care, however as a child I lived in a house struck twice by lightening! so I do not take chances, in our house case my Mother blamed my father who was a Radio Ham, said he was always tinkering with wiring "up there " she may have had a point. Good luck keep us posted as George says we may all be affected Dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: "David W Wood" <g3yxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

George:

An even more techie friend of mine lives about 600 yards up
the road from me (to the east) and runs a mains voltage
chart recorder, and logged a peak voltage of 280 volts.
I am, as mentioned in previous messages, awaiting the
admissions and confessions from the Coulomb masters!

Hi David,

Actually while not directly JAWS related, this is an issue
which could affect every single one of us - even if we
believe we have surge protectors and all sorts. Let's face
it, I'm sure there is a limit to the voltage, current and
amperage you can be protected against.

Please keep us posted on your progress in this case if
that's OK with you.

George.

Dorothy:

In the Guildford area over the last couple of weeks have
been a number of major power outages and the surge has been
caused by switching transients when repairs have been made,
and reinstatement been invoked by the power companies.
My UPS was also clobbered, to say nothing of the router,
scanner, printer also.
Needless to s ay, I am now forcefully demanding maintenance
logs from the companies in question to validate a claim.

The replacement was made by me picking up the phone and
speaking with my business contact at Dell.

Sorry moderator for the non-JAWS specific reply.

David

Good heavens David what caused that Power Surge? I have a
surge protector, but if someone comes to do a job I make
sure they use a Circuit breaker and I turn off the
computers. Some may recall, that during a thunderstorm near
me near the Kent Cricket Ground a year ago, a big tree was
hit and several people living near had their computers
blown! They were not hit and it was the build up of
electricity that ruined their computers. I was lucky being
just out of range. They got claims to replace their
computers on their
household Insurance Policy, one under accidental breakage,
I know all this
since they are part of my neighbourhood watch regarding
your Cd I was told by a friend helping me Andrew of this
list his Cd was further back than mine so I am not surprised
you cannot find it. However they Fs will know it and you can
ask them to give you more activation keys. Who replaced your
Computer David? sorry to be so curious.

Hi Alex and all:
I think that it was issued with version 6 - this is, of
course, the
one version which I cannot find at present!

The PC issue was a massive mains surge which took the
power supply
with it, and now it also transpires that the HDD is also
knackered.
Yes, I did ave an anti-surge facility in situ.

David

it will be on the authorisation disk which I think may be
in jfw7. I
am not sure though how to find it if you can't find the
internet
licence manager cd, perhaps Freedom Scientific would be
the best place
to go for help, as it is probably tied to your jaws serial
number.

Hi all:
My not very old PC died a couple of weeks ago.

Just installed JAWS 9 onto the replacement, but cannot
find the 20
character code anywhere.

Can I find it on my laptop configuration anywhere, or how
may I
otherwise obtain it?

TIA

David
