It is so good to hear from you and to sense the optimism in your message.
It is very interesting to read your memories of the early days which I
remember so well.
I hope that your computer is working well. I am impressed that you are
using vision and keeping in touch.
I seem to be just as busy despite retirement
I send all best wishes for the New year

Dear Professor Bird
Just a note to update you and to thank you for your email, of November
1st. I am glad you liked the Mexican flower. I have attached another
picture in case you have got bored of the other.
I expect you are still very busy, Molly and all of the staff at
Moorefield's keep me updated. I wanted to ask you do you see much of John
Marshall these days, as you know I don't have R.P. however in the early
days my GP thought it would be a good idea to join a group like this.
Because we have seeing problems in common ( It was just tea and basket
making locally!) So I was in at the very first meeting down in Gravesend.
When (Linda Drummond Walker) know Linda Calder launched the society John
Marshall young handsome with his young wife, would come to all the dances
and was the best dancer on the floor. Mary Woddruff local representative
here, no local members here anymore. She got to the AGM meeting in Oxford
last year, and although a bit late and breathless John Marshall came
bouncing in, all smiles and hugging everyone. They realised you would not
have been able to make it with your incredible agenda but everyone thought
of you. Re my computer and progress, I have got to the bottom of the
problem as I think I told you, and Freedom Scientific told me they are
never going to make it possible to use white font on black screen. I
found this out by going to the Directors. A local man who lives in
Crowborough who used to be with a firm of electronic engineers has nearly
finished making the box for me. This as I think I explained to you invert
the signal externally, so I can see it white on black it will have a
switch that I can flick up to turn it to normal view. It will not
interfere with the computer or software. So I am keeping fingers and toes
and everything crossed in the hope that it will work.
If you ever get out to America perhaps you could mention to Freedom
Scientific that there are a lot of patients who really need to use the
computer this way, It should not have been this much trouble. Thank you
for your encouragement it has helped me more than you know.
May I wish you then a very happy Christmas and New Year, and hope that the
pressure eases off for you a little bit.
Very best wishes,
Dorothy
