Subject: Blind and Visually Impaired Testers Wanted for paid
Website Research in Leicestershire (Ref: AM3) March 2006
Dear Mervyn,
A rather belated Happy New Year! It's been a few weeks
since we've been in contact with you, but I wondered if I
could be cheeky and ask for your assistance once more?
During December you very kindly helped us contact both Blind
and Visually-Impaired PC users to assist with some
accessibility testing within Wiltshire of a well-known
shopping website. We have just been commissioned to do some
accessibility work within Leicestershire during March, to
test a government website, but are again looking for new
testers to participate. Might you know any relevant people
within Leicestershire that may be interested in taking part
in our research? If so, if you are able to help us contact
them, we would be very grateful.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you're able to
offer. Should you need anything further, please don't
hesitate to contact us. Otherwise, I very much hope to hear
from you again soon.
Thank you and regards,
Beckie
Hello,
I hope you don't mind me contacting you. I found your
details on the internet, and wondered if you might be able
to help us. We work across the UK doing both usability and
accessibility research, but we have a new project in
Leicestershire for which we are seeking both Blind and
Visually Impaired testers (who are regular PC users) to test
a well-known website. Might you be able to help us contact
relevant people? Any assistance you could offer would be
very much appreciated. The details of are research follow:
The Web Usability Partnership is a research organisation
specialising in making our clients' websites more effective
(more about us on our website http://www.webusability.co.uk
<http://www.webusability.co.uk/> ). We undertake website
testing for Government and private sector organisation
websites and we recruit people to help test these sites.
During mid-March we will be conducting accessibility
research for a well-known website and are looking for blind
and visually impaired people to help test the site. We need
the following people to take part:
1/ Blind PC Users - people who are experienced users of
screen-reader technology (e.g. Jaws software) and use this
to access the internet.
2/ Visually Impaired PC Users - people who use
magnification software or other techniques to help them when
using the internet.
3/ Non-Mouse PC Users - people who routinely use keyboard
shortcuts or other methods to navigate the screen when using
the internet.
The research is quite simple. It will involve attending our
offices in Leicestershire (venue to be confirmed but most
likely within Leicester itself), and spending approximately
1 hour giving feedback on the website. There's no prep work
in advance, and no subsequent commitments.
The date for this research is still to be confirmed but will
be during mid-March. Testing will be conducted at
pre-arranged timeslots throughout the day. This session will
be recorded so that we can analyse the results following the
research session, however your anonymity will be protected
at all times.
Why would anyone want to do this? Well:
* We will pay for the time involved (£50) plus travel
expenses
* It will be helping to improve a website that should be
valuable to other blind / visually impaired people
* And it's quite fun!
If you could circulate this email to colleagues or members
that might be interested I should be most grateful. Anyone
interested in participating should contact me
(beckie@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and we can discuss further
details.
Many thanks
Beckie May
