[jaws-uk] Re: Disabling Dual-Monitor Support - WAS:Re: Re: jaws and ATI Radeon X550

Tristram,

This has been brought up with Microsoft's Enable division,
and I have had a response that it is being looked into.

George.

This is usually card specific and if you are not
experiencing problems then it is probably not relevant to
you yet at least. Until quite recently dual monitor support
was quite rare, though obtainable on uipper end video cards.
Now PCI express has come in as a new expansion bus
technology it is, and will become far more common issue.
At present these dual head display cards problems for all
the DCM based accessibility aids becuase when the new breed
of graphics cards install they provide two graphic
controllers to the operating system so they can access the
same data model within the O/S.

If you have a DCM based accessibility aid such as Jaws, but
WindowEyes and Zoomtext can also be included here then you
need to go into device manager under "display adaptors" and
disable the secondary controler.

Some may worry about laptops, but those I have encountered
so far do not provide true dual monitor support in the
fashion that causes problems, although they may well be
capable of driving both internal flat panel and external
monitor. Where such machines do exist disable the second
controller anyway as you will still be able to switch
between the displays if you need to but not drive them at
once.=20

As Microsoft oversee the DCM standard in consultation with
the screen access developers, it will be a move on
Microsoft's part to shift things so at least screen access
products can work in this environment. I know that at least
on screen access developer has requested this be fixed.

Regards.
