[jaws-uk] Re: Best E-mail Programme

Hi,
There is no such thing as a "best email program", not even in terms of accessibility with jaws.

this is largely a very personal and very subjective decision. I personally have been a Eudora user for 12 years, going back to the days when I had sight still. Eudora worked and works well with jaws but is no longer supported. I still use it, though, because it does what I need it to do and I know it backwards.

Many people use Outlook express because it comes - or came - with Widnows for many years. Mozilla Thunderbird is another fre and full-featured email client.

There have been several email clients popular and used by the blind over the years. Pegasus Mail was one favorite in its day, PM 2000 another. Callypso Email another still and "The Bat" is one that is very popular among the blind in my country. Microsoft Outlook is another good choice but Outlook is more than just an email program. It also is an appointment calender etc. I personally have n no experience using it.

for Portable use, Thunderbird is an excellent choice. Popcorn or Pop Keeper are other options and I have even heard of a portable version of Outlook Express floating around.

In closing, I personally think the best option is to try out some of the different options and find the program that works best for you and that you are most comfortable with. Especialy awith the free options, this does not cost you more than a little time - time that will be well worth it when you find the program that works best for you and that you may stick with for many years. I have tried out many email programs over the years but have always come back to Eudora and can't see myself abandoning it unless it stops doing what I need it to do. - And no, I am not jpromoting Eudora at all as it is abandonware but just using it to illustrate the point about this being a matter of personal preference largely.

Hi Mike,

If you're just mainly sending and receiving emails, outlook 2003 is fine as
far as I'm concerned. Same set up as yours. Haven't had any hassl and
backing up and restoring files is easy.e

Hi!

EXP Home, SP3 JAWS 10

What is the best E-mail programme for general home use? Bear in mind I'm
not much of a computer buff!

On this machine I have Outlook and Outlook Express which seem to be part of
Office 2003. I presently use Eudora 5.1 but this plays up a bit. Would I
be better off up-grading to Eudora 7?

Mike
