1. Starting from your inbox folder, shift tab to the folder list.  You should 
be focused on your inbox folder entry.

2.  Press alt+enter and this will take you into your inbox properties sheet.

3.  tab once and you come to a field which tells you where your inbox is stored 
on your computer.  It is a long path which includes some unintelligible 
numbers.  Make sure you are at the beginning of the field by pressing home, 
then select and copy the entire path.

4. Paste this path into the address bar of windows explorer.  Note that this 
may seem a bit complicated as there is a drop down box on the address bar which 
complicates matters.  IMake sure the address bar is switched on in the 
view/toolbars menu in windows explorer.  Then press F4 to go into the address 
bar, press escape to close the drop down menu and then paste in your inbox 
path.  If none of this works, you may have to laboriously type in the name of 
the path into the address bar.  

5.  Still in the address bar, go to the end of the path by pressing endand then 
backspacing until you have removed the final element of the path which is the 
inbox name, usually inbox.dbx.

6. Hit enter and this will focus windows explorer on the folder which contains 
all your emails.  It should be called Outlook express. You can copy this with 
alt+c and then paste it to wherever you wish to back up your emails with 
control+v.  

7.  If you are rebuilding the software on your PC, when you are ready to put 
back your emails, just reverse the above steps by copying your backup into the 
new Outlook Express folder. Remember to find out what it is called by looking 
at your inbox properties sheet as described above, in the new version of 
Outlook Express as this may change from installation to installation.  

I hope this makes sense.  It seems a bit complicated but once you get into it,

  My computer has been crashing quite a lot lately - probably flagging from the 
heat like me! So I decided the time had come to get around to backing up all 
the files I've carefully squirreled away in Outlook Express folders...

  However, it seems this task is not as easy as I thought and I'm a bit stuck. 
I've tried copying the files in the usual way and pasting them straight onto a 
floppy disk from Windows Explorer, and also tried moving the files to there as 
one does between folders in Outlook Express. i.e. by picking up the files using 
shift and control plus v...

  But still no luck, so can anyone out there tell me how to do it please?
