Hi. I bought this Advent 4211 3 weeks ago and I think it's great as it runs
well with the System Access speech software in which I use. I do sometimes
worry about using it in hot weather because the fan might not cope with usage
more than 2 hours. However I have used this Netbook in public places. It fits
nicely into my wife's purse. I do think the 1GB of RAM is quite sufficient for
XP HOme. Although this machine does not have a CD Drive it doesn't pose me any
problems. I just copy software from CD's to pen drive and just transfer it over
and install on to the laptop. I think the mini laptop trend is just beginning.
The keyboard doesn't have the page up and page down arrow but that can be
resolved by holding down function key and hitting the up or down arrow keys. I
would like a 6 Cell battery as the 3 Cell battery only last for 1 hour and 40
mins. I sold my Toshiba A200 to raise funds to buy the netbook and it was well
worth it.

Subject: [jaws-uk] Advent 4211 PC
Hi all.
I recently purchased the Advent 4211 from PC World and collected it from my
local store this morning.
I have installed JAWS and Office 2003 on it so far.
The reviews of this PC all suggested that it was a joy to use as the keyboard
was a better size than some of the recent cheap ultra portable PCs currently on
the market. when I had a hands -on of the Advent 4211, I noticed that the unit
was very small and lightt, weighing in at somewhere around 1.2 KG. I also
noticed that the keyboard covered the whole width of the unit and so it is easy
to type on.
I won't go in to a massive description here as a google search for Advent
4211 review will come up with lots of useful results.
What I can say however is that this PC works well with JAWS and Office and
should be good for note taking, creating spreadsheets, browsing the internet
and email. It would probably just about cope with scanning as well but forget
voice recognition. The unit has one of the new Intel Atom 270 processors and I
would guess it works as well as one of the middle of the range Celeron
processors used to work a few years ago.
anyway, I found the keyboard very easy to use and quite logically laid out,
and the keys are a decent size.
The battery is a bit poor, as it is only a 3 cell battery but a better
battery with 6 cells should be available sometime in the next couple of months.
this means battery life is currently only about 2 hours.
The Advent 4211 is sold only in PC World as far as I know, but actually the
PCWorld support website www.thetechguys.com seems to have a list of useful
documents and or downloads including instructions, latest drivers etc.
This PC is the same as the Microsoft Wind which has also had great reviews.
It is cheaper here because it does not come with a carry case and the warrantee
is a year longer.
Regards
Graham
