On my Samsung PC there is an icon in the system tray.  insert f11 takes you to 
a list of system tray icons.  Is the battery status to be found there?

    Hi Jim,

    The normal keystroke for checking the battery status is JawsKey+shift+b.

    I don't use Vista but I shouldn't think it is any different from XP.
