[jaws-uk] Re: ACRONIS

Hi Wendy
Glad you've managed to do the backup. I think you'll find that if you do it regularly the sequence of events are more easy to negotiate. Also it depends on the type of backup. The first time is always the main one, but with subsequent ones you can choose just to save the changes which have taken place since the last time, thus saving space. (The choices are in the menus and once jaws cursored to, they can at least be chosen.) I'm relying on faith in one of their reps I spoke to, that the program does what it says it does accurately. I haven't yet had to do a restore and hope not to, but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Have you made a recovery disk? I haven't yet - if you have you could perhaps pass on some tips. I don't think there are any scripts for Acronis - they certainly would be useful. Sighted help can get us through the initial steps - it might also help in making Acronis scripts to automate the backup function. I'm fairly certain acronis' scripts work like macros and automate the whole function after the first backup. It would probably help if we looked into this.
Regards.

Gordon

Many thanks for your helpful reply. I don't have sighted assistance readily
on hand, but I think I have managed to back up my system, although it was
very difficult. Tabbing didn't always seem to be telling me the truth about where I was, and when it asked me to enter a folder name for my backup I had to try several times before it worked. I have an external hard drive which I use for backing up, and it does appear now to contain the backup file. I
am just wondering whether anyone has written any JAWS scripts for Acronis.
I am not accomplished in this area of JAWS.

Hi Wendy
I use Acronis a little - at least I've backed up my system and partitions - the proof of whether this works would be with the restore function, which I
haven't had need of yet. When speaking to an acronis representative he
assured me it would make and restore a complete image so that everything
could be restored perfectly.
It's not too jaws unfriendly but it does need cursoring about with the Jaws

cursor. When you click on Backup you enter the Backup wizard, and can make
choices. If you wish just to back up your C drive it's pretty well set on
that. You have very few choices to make and need only click on the next
button to proceed to the next window. I found it useful to try it the first
time with a sighted helper - after that it's fairly straightforward.
The good thing is that you can backup to a variety of medium eg. disk, hard disk or even the acronis zone which is a section of you hard drive selected to store your latest working system. If the machine crashes , on reboot you
press F11 and it resets the machie to the last backup you were happy with.
It's worthwhile taking the time to use this - the representative assured me
it is the best one on the market, even better than Ghost (he would of
course, but I've heard a number of people saying it's good too.)
Hope some of this helps.

Does anyone use Acronis to back up their system? It was recommended to me
by someone on another list, and I have installed it, but it doesn't seem
very JAWS friendly. I have tried configuration manager, but no luck. Can
anyone help? I can't find any scripts for it.
