You may not have enough ram, do you know how much you have?

If you do have enough, have you closed the Office Assistant?

Dear Chris, Brian and all,
Recently, I have a problem with Microsoft Word working with J-say. I'm able
to work with small Microsoft Word documents, but when I open a large
document; say, a book, J-say and dragon either freeze or become silent. I'm
not even able to navigate through the document window by using Jaws
manually. I recently ran an update from dragon, could it have done some
mischief? Or is there any problem with setting that I have to solve in
Microsoft Word. Please help me.
