I think you're getting confused again.  If a USB drive is plugged
into a RISC OS system, it seems to run slower than it ought - for
reasons that we don't know.  Also the figures that were bandied
around on these ngs some time ago related to flash storage, which
isn't quick.

If a USB drive is plugged into a NAS controller, I bet you'll find
it will run faster; particularly if both controller and drive run
at USB's high speed, as seems likely.  Also you'll probably be
dealing with a rotating drive, which are substantially faster than
flash drives.  Then we'll get those data delivered over Ethernet.
