I note that John's mailing did not strip the 'sig', even though Doug's
original clearly had the dash-dash-space indicator.

However John seems to have been replying to some form of digest and the
trailing space is no longer there.  I wonder if Freelist's Digest
version is doing the stripping.

Both are using Messenger which we know to correctly handle sigs.
