If the Iyonix 2 is really, really dead - and it seems from what you
say that it is - then I will simply rename my 'Iyonix Fund' as my
'Apple Fund' because, as far as I can see, that's the only other way
forward.

But your existing Iyonix is not dead. If you go for a Mac, don't
abandon the Iyonix: they work so well together. For example,
because I like the way RISCOS does things, I often use it to
create/edit/rename/delete/move files or folders on the Mac.

I know this is not the same as looking forward to Iyonix 2,
and that it may not last for ever, but it's great while it does.

Yes - agreed: Iyonix/Mac great together! And I'm very happy to run the Iyo while it lasts for the excellent DTP etc. software.

May get VRPC for Mac at some point, perhaps soon... But I am enjoying the (laptop) Mac for what it can do better than the Iyo ('net browsing; digipics; laptopping/mobility), and because I can still stay Windows-free.

As others have said, any new native RISC OS machine would need to make a big leap forward in speed and in internet capabilities (those two particularly) for it to attract us remaining RISC OS loyalists. TOO big a leap ever to be achievable?? And the longer there is NO machine to buy, the more people will have invested elsewhere. And that's for a desktop machine: the need for a laptop was perhaps a big factor for me to go for an alternative OS... and obviously Mac: no regrets there!

The MacBook Pro doubles well as a 'desktop'. The 'desktop' 'big-box' concept is distinctly long-in-the-tooth now, I believe (and that's why the iMac is a logical step forward for the 'home office' market).

But that in itself I think would be another problem for a native RISC OS machine: I guess it could not avoid being yet another 'box' design?
