Alt-break may give you a clue.


My cursor also sometimes freezes when Hermes starts up. Pressing Alt
Break stops Hermes, but the cursor is still frozen. Alt Break stops HID 
but the cursor is still frozen. Alt Break stops Fireworkz etc etc.

Only a reset gets out of the loop.


Yes, but Alt Break can point the finger. With me it was HID, and moving
that to later in the start-up sequence cured the problem.
