I'll try that next time I have one of these drives that doesn't work. In
the meantime, I managed to run SCSIForm and it's just verifying....
(fingers crossed). 

This one is a Seagate "FreeAgent Go" drive, which doesn't seem as reliable
on RISC OS as another Western Digital USB drive I have here, which didn't
give any of the same problems, even though it was formatted to the same
format.

Yep. Worked fine under Windows XP. Mac OS is even more fussy with USB
drives than the A9, so I gave up trying to access from the Mac. The Mac
doesn't even recognise my Sony Ericcson P1i phone - doesn't even recognise
the device being plugged in!

I'm not sure without firing up Windows XP. Presumably just the default
format that they're supplied in?

No the pointer didn't freeze, but the hourglass was going and there was no
other response, even toggling the caps lock button didn't flash the LED (my
usual test for the machine responding).
