I'm sorry that this won't help...
I haven't had hold of a FAT-formatted USB hard drive to try, only
flash drives, including some over 2 GB. The only hard drives I've
tried were NTFS. They didn't stiff the Iyonix because I was able
to read the partition tables. Clearly 4 GB flash drives don't
stiff it either, otherwise !ROFS wouldn't have worked.
There are lots of quirky USB devices out there, as any trawl
through the linux usb users mailing list will tell you :-(
