Sounds like it's working normally....
You can only have four memory stick devices present (even if some are
empty). Thus, if you have a memory card reader, which puts four extra icons
on the bar, then nothing else will appear until you disconnect it.
If you plug a device in first and then plug in your memory card reader, I'm
not entirely sure what would happen, but one of the devices will
'disappear' - which is what it sounds like is happening.
