You may be right.

I wanted to use RISC OS ADFS formatting on my USB flash drive because 
of the 'inconsistencies' of the DOS filer in RISC OS.

I have now additionally verified my flash drive under RISC OS and 
there are no errors.

I have also run DiscKnight on it and it says 'Disc is good'.

You're right.  Using the same batch of files,
I can get 55 files with 2 letter filenames into a directory.
I can get 33 files with 25 letter filenames into a directory.
Adding additional files I get a crash with the USB flash drive access
light left on.
