I have a Lexar 512 MB drive which works perfectly well.

When it arrived it had some PC software on it in a separate partition.

I reformatted it on a PC to free the space.

I suspect that you reformatting with a RISC OS formatter has only formatted
one of the partitions, probably the one that had the PC software on it, as
RISC OS doesn't understand partitions.

I suggest you find someone with a PC to reformat it for you, preferably
using an older Windows version.

All the pen drives I have (had) work perfectly in FAT format, with the
advantage they can be used to transfer files to/from PCs.
