Yup. I'm still a fan of my IYONIX. Currently, it's got an uptime of
over 21 days and it's still just as responsive as when it first booted
- as I'd expect. If only I could get my Linux machines to have that
sort of uptime in normal use or my Windows machines to stop slowing
down all the time!
My linux machine only ever gets re-booted in the following circumstances:
1) A power failure is too long for my UPS (about 1 hour)
2) A 'burning desire' on my part to upgrade the kernel or distribution
(about twice a year)
3) A hardware upgrade (about once a year).
It is usually up for at least 65 days. That is way more than my iyonix,
however much I like it. The linux is quite a busy file/printer server as
well as serving most of my network management and browsnig needs.
Just to one-up you both :) I regularly see Iyonix based radar processors
with uptimes of three to six months. With carefully vetted software RISC OS
can be very stable, it just suffers when applications start doing something
naughty.
Not one-up at all. If I chose to let the linux server run for 2 years it
would be quite capable of doing so. Hardware and kernel upgrades are the
main reason for rebooting, together with the limits of an economically
viable UPS and the local power supply situation (and my UPSs are quite big).
