I am going to add my comments to this as with the rise of cheap Iyonixes
on Ebay - Thomas won't be alone...

I bought the TRM from Castle to get the configuration needed for RAM.

Eventually I gave in and bought a 1GB stick from them as I was finding
the necessary configuration difficult to find. <-- just for the record I
have had *no* software problems with that amount of memory!

Even with a TRM you are looking at *very* specific requirements in terms
of speed, latency and memory chip breakdown.

You might get lucky as Neil Spellings did years ago and find a stick
that works...

Even so unless you buy second hand the DDR memory used in the Iyonix is,
as Thomas found out, not easy to get hold of today either.

This isn't any fault of the Iyonix but is yet another classic case of PC
non-standards i.e. when Intel designed the Xscale they couldn't expect
PC RAM to change so much and so quickly or perhaps another view is to
say that they closely defined what their processor could reliably access
to make it simpler for prospective hardware designers.

Of course I am expecting a certain UK dealership to make a stock
announcement anytime soon... ;-)

So to conclude even the bits of the Iyonix that do not need drivers like
the RAM and the PSU are not quite the simple entities they may seem at
first!

Cheers,

Keith Dunlop
