I hope it's not anything like that as it's got a new(ish) power supply 
and a separate new network card (both bought from CJE) last year, so 
these should both be OK, if the machine does it again I will make sure 
I write down all the details even though it made no sense.

I thought maybe the hard disc had got corrupted and was going to 
swtich over to my 2nd hard disc and use that and see if the problem 
went away but in the end there was no need.
