which firmware version are you using ?
Mine is 5.12.
OK here goes:
Get a new HD e.g. 120 GB
check (threw in a WD 100GB IDE disk as slave on primary IDE channel)
Good.
Format that using the RISC OS tool !HForm so that it will be recognised
by RISC OS. Make the size of the RISC OS partition, say 4GB in size.
(RISC OS does not know about partitions)
check (came up as HardDisc5)
Yes. Did you make the RISC OS partition smaller than "full size" ?
Put all the stuff you need for installation on that new RISC OS partition
Partitions for Linux will be generated during the install process.
check (put !dInstall, !LinLoader, and the 2.4.22 zImage in ADFS::HardDisc5.$)
Good.
You need to install the package "acorn-fdisk" to do that job for you.
by the time acorn-fdisk is needed, i should be in Linux right ?
Yes indeed. acorn-fdisk works like normal fdisk, but keeps in mind the
tricks needed to enable partitions under RISC OS. It will generate a small
(1kB IMHO) partition table first and after that work like expected.
after
executing !dInstall on the secondary hd, i see the quick flash of info from
LinLoad, and then the monitor turns off :( ... which is to say, the same
behavior i've had with a single disc ...
Try it with the zImage-19022004 from the web. It boasts to fix the video
initialisation issue. It is the 2.4.22 kernel, I use here and it works.
i also tried appending console=ttyS0,57600n8 to the linload arguments and
hooking up the serial console, but no output
I never tried that. Maybe it will work if you initialise the serial port
under RISC OS, but I doubt that.
you mentioned card placement ? what does your iyonix look like ? mine came
with the pci slots filled out like so:
- empty
- some tv card
- usb card
- nvidia video card
If you finally manage to install Linux on your machine, you should install
the package pciutils. It should provide you with the "lspci" command,
which will tell you a lot about the cards installed.
You will need the pci id of the nvidia card later on for X11
configuration.
On my Iyonix it is: 00:06.0
the two bottom slots are the wider ones ...
