Well, I have my scanner plugged into that port, and hadn't used my
scanner since upgrading to 5.12.

I have, just now, tried my scanned and the report was that there was no
scanner found.

I have never before had problems with my scanner (although I know that
others have had).

Unplugging and re-plugging the scanner lead at the USB port brought the
scanner back to life.

I'll try this again next time I power the machine up.
