A large number of the emails last month (and many in this thread) were
about getting the softload to load automatically which, as you've found
out, is dangerous if it's not working properly in the first place.
The CD release of the softload had a problem which caused some machines
(dependant on which video card is installed) to give the blank screen at
startup. Steve Revill reported this to the list on 27/04/09.
Your easiest route for a first step is to download the current softload
release from the ROOL site and run it by double-clicking on the Go514
obey file.
This means that it won't be run automatically on boot so it's not so
convenient, but also means that if you get problems then a reboot will
get you back to 5.13 with no hassle.
Only when you're happy that things are OK running this way should you
then go on to either run it automatically at boot or reflash your ROM.
Cheers,
Steve.
