I apologise for not replying to this thread and thanking everyone for
their comments sooner than this. Not long after the original query had been
sent, I lost contact with the NTL server as a result of changing my
broadband options and so have been incommunicado for a couple of days. I
seem to have missed some e-mails as a result; no replies to my request for
help to the Messenger list have reached me in spite of it being mentioned by
someone on this list that a solution had been posted there.

I should have thought of ImageFS2 as being the culprit! Obvious, really! I
have now read the relevant bit of the manual and sorted it out.  
                                                                       
So thanks again to everyone who replied (whether I received it or not!).
