Although, as one prominent contributor could be expected to say, "This
is a subject for c.s.a.apps ... "(!), it is relevant perhaps to remind
this group that if you want to learn to create your own MDFs for use
with "new" monitors on the Iyonix, you could do worse than to use, or
even learn to use, the 32-bit version of !MakeModes, available from:

  http://www.cjemicros.co.uk/micros/resources/index.shtml and from

  http://www.riscos.org/links/

It is noticeable, from people's reactions on this group and elsewhere,
that the suggestion to use MakeModes to make a specfic MDF for their
"new" monitor is to complain that it is too difficult especially in
the absence of a clear manual.

Some time ago, I edited the elementary collection of text and Draw
files provided inside the Docs directory inside the 26-bit version of
MakeModes to create usable Manuals covering both the instruction
Manual and the Application Note, produced originally by Acorn; both
attributed to Dean Murphy of Acorn, 22nd August 1994.

In addition to creating a more readable Manual and Application Note,
the edited version of the Manual was amended to overcome the fatal
Type 5 bug present in the 26-bit MakeModes which many people found so
off-putting . There was a known work-around for this bug, but I found
it explained only once in all my searching. It seemed like a secret!

The Manual with the work-around instructions was soon overtaken by an
unofficial "patch" to eliminate the bug. Later, the 32-bit version of
MakeModes (version 0.27) was created and later made available on the
websites noted above.

The edited Manual and Application Note were first made available on my
website, which is now at:

  http://www.watsnees.demon.co.uk/fw/sof.htm

These were identified by RISCOS Ltd as a useful resource and
subsequently carried on their website. I regret not remembering the
particular address. They were also included on the Select3 CD, in the
MakeModes directory.

I regret that I have not found time to revise the documents in favour
of the the 32-bit software, leaving out the sections relating to the
workaround for the Type 5 fatal bug. If there is worthwhile support
for this further revision of the documents, I will aim to find time.

Your move?

Regards.
