Precisely what I did and then thought I was going to regret. On
restart I got an error message I couldn't read due to the machine
being in the wrong screen mode at that point. After several power
cycles I tried using escape to omit the Boot sequence. Eventually the
Boot sequence completed despite holding the escape key down and
everything works fine. I'm now puzzled and a bit wary of replacing
Rom apps this way.
