That simply means that the LinkStation is incompatible with LanManFS.
Since you can copy files to the LinkStation, it should be obvious that
the connection is working, so there is nothing you can do to fix it,
except using a client that works. Whether a client works or not is a
question of luck because the SMB protocol is not very clearly defined
and often not implemented correctly by devices.

That is not only a problem with RISC OS, even Windows itself does not
work with all NAS devices. For instance, the Fujitsu StorageBird I
have works fine with XP but does not work with Vista. So, either Vista
gets it wrong or the StorageBird gets it wrong, or perhaps both.

The good news is that the very latest version of LanMan98 by Warm
Silence Software (recently updated by Alex Waugh) does a fabulous job
and works just fine with Vista and with my Buffalo Linkstation here,
though that particular version I am referring to might not be
available to the public yet. The release version from the SE Show did
not work at all with my LinkStation but I got a beta in the meantime
that works fine.
