To follow up on my own post, I have solved the problem by fitting the 
monitor to a PC and obtaining the timings from that, and using those 
to make a new MDF.

The new MDF is available to download from the URL below, and will 
remain there, for anyone else who finds it of use.

Apologies for posting both here and to comp.sys.acorn.hardware - this 
was because I thought my first post wasn't going to come through, it 
took a long time to appear.
