Not only prevents them but also restores them back to the previous values -
ie. the pinboard picture becomes complete again after a screen refresh
subsequent to disabling LTS.

I've not noticed them being EOR with the background image. Everytime I've
seen the effect it's data from elsewhere and not related to the existing
graphic. I'd notice if it was XOR'd or something.

It does generally occur in the same place on the screen - although I have
seen it lower down the screen (2/5ths from bottom instead of 1/5th from top
normally).
