I believe the answer is to have more than one operating system.
Like you, I was extremely reluctant to abandon RiscOS, but I am no
longer tempted
to do so, since I bought my Mac Mini, sat it alongsicde my Iyonix and
made them talk
to each other. Now my Iyonix does everything I ask of it rather well,
and I still love it.
I make sure of this by not asking it to do certain things, such as
the Web, or genealogy,
which the Mac does better.
